Our History

Wild Street Church grew out of a church planted by St Matthias Centennial Park at the University of NSW in 1998. In 2003 it was decided that some members of the University congregation would accept the offer by Eastgardens Anglican Church to rent St Edmunds in Maroubra and establish a congregation there. This morning congregation was led by Rod Cocking and adopted the name Wild Street Church.

St Edmund’s generously changed their meeting time to accommodate Wild Street and also provided seeding funding for three years for the employment of a family and youth worker, Kurt Peters. In 2004 the Wednesday Night congregation at St Matthias Centennial Park moved to Wild Street Church to begin the Wild Street Sunday evening congregation.

In 2006 when the rector of Eastgarden Anglican Church, Rev Bob Silberman, retired the decision was made for Wild Street Church and the Eastgarden Anglican Church to amalgamate. Wild Street formally left St Matthias, Centennial Park and amalgamated with Eastgardens Anglican Church in November 2006 and Rod Cocking was appointed rector.
